Quantum Sensing: Theory, Sensors, and Application in the Chemical and Earth Sciences

Benjamin Gilbert*, Paul Ashby

Breakthroughs in quantum metrology and chemical sensing obtained from the use of the nitrogen–vacancy (NV–) color center in diamond illustrate the significant potential of spins with long coherence times that are also individually optically addressable. This symposium will review color-center measurement methods, their application to systems and problems in chemical, materials and Earth sciences, and avenues for the development of new quantum sensors beyond diamond.
